Fifteen days through central Europe in early autumn, when the crowds have gone home and the light turns golden.
Late September into early October is the sweet spot for this part of the world. The summer crowds have cleared out, the weather turns crisp without turning cold, and the light does something to those old squares that August simply cannot manage.
This is the Europe most people picture. Castle towns, river valleys, cathedral squares, and cities that have been rebuilding themselves for a thousand years and keep getting it right.
Fifteen days gives us room to do it properly. Multiple nights in each base, guided walking where a guide adds something, and free afternoons where wandering is the better use of your time.
Early autumn also means harvest season across the wine regions we pass through, which is a happy coincidence I did not plan and am not going to apologize for.
Squares, spires, and cafes
Central European capitals and old towns where the square is still the middle of everything. Compact, walkable, and best experienced slowly with a coffee in front of you.
River valleys and castle country
River valleys, hillside castles, vineyards at harvest, and the small towns between the famous stops. Some of the best hours of this trip happen through the coach window.
Depart the United States on an overnight transatlantic flight. An easy first day on arrival to get oriented before the trip really starts.
Guided walking through the old towns, with free afternoons built in. Multiple nights in each base, so you unpack and stay a while.
Through the countryside between the cities, with castle towns, river scenery, and vineyards at harvest along the way.
A last day, a farewell dinner with the group, and the flight home on Wednesday, October 6.

Best season of the year for this part of Europe. Crowds thin out, the weather is crisp rather than hot, the light is gorgeous, and the wine regions are at harvest.
A fair amount. Old towns mean cobblestones, hills, and walking, and this trip has plenty. If pacing concerns you, call me and we will talk about it honestly before you commit.
Crisp. Days generally 55 to 68 degrees, evenings cool, with some rain likely. Layers, a warm jacket, an umbrella, and shoes with good grip on wet cobblestones.
